Met Office Only A Few Months Behind Suyts Space!!!

Back in March, we had a most excellent series of posts on Marcott et al.  See here, here, here, and here.  That was enough to end any serious debate as to the veracity of the claims being made about the Marcott paper.

And, then there was this…… where the authors state the claims were total crap.

So, finally, Bishop Hill sees this…..

Met Office withdraws article about Marcott’s hockey stick

What the Met said was this……

In the light of this statement from the authors, we no longer consider our headline to be appropriate.

What was the original title?  We can ascertain by reading the URL

Well, those super sciency people will catch up with us skeptics eventually.  But, this does beg the question, will the Met and other climate offices ever tire of beclowning themselves?

Given their recent antics, I am surprised they ever caught up.

What it does show is how this field of science, as a discipline, has become so embedded into the politics of today, and that their research has become a joke. Marcott et al have denigrated and demeaned real research that is being done. True independent scientific climate research with worthy goals is becoming more difficult to find.
The ‘me too’ type of reports, as espoused by egoist team Marcott, has mudded the clear waters of real science, reducing it to a political/advocacy tool for the powerful. Sure he (after the fact) then issued a written explanation that has been widely publicized and repeated –
“Thus, the 20th century portion of our paleotemperature stack is not statistically robust, cannot be considered representative of global temperature changes, and therefore is not the basis of any of our conclusions.” But by that time the damage was done.

IMO he and his like are dangerous idiots, prepared to prostitute their chosen field for the pig trough of easy money. This was the same method by which the Nazis convinced their scientific idiots to cooperate. Few scientists were able to resist Himmler’s cash and patronage; and most obediently produced the twisted conclusions he was looking for – without worrying over-much about the amoral methods used to reach them. What Churchill called in a famous speech Nazism’s ‘perverted science’ may still be with us today.
Even in there day there were many useful idiots. Bernard Shaw was one of them –

I’m glad they withdrew but it came a bit too late. The paper’s sensational claims have run their course and have served their intended purpose.

Met’s initial story was front page news. Their retraction was somewhere behind the classified section where nobody reads.
