Breitbart has a different perspective on this. But, I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t be a worry for many of the “journalists” at the LA Times.
The rumor is the Koch brothers have offered to buy the LA Times among other papers in the group. Apparently, this has some of the people working there a bit put-off.
At a Los Angeles Times in-house awards ceremony last week, columnist Steve Lopez addressed the elephant in the room.
Speaking to the entire staff, he said, “Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Austin Beutner’s group.” No one raised their hands.
“Raise you hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by Rupert Murdoch.” A few people raised their hands.
Facing the elephant trunk-on, “Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by the Koch brothers.” About half the staff raised their hands.
Now, many people may not know this, but the Koch bros are into just about everything. They’re not just wealthy because of oil. They’re extremely successful businessmen. Those people saying they’d quit before working for them? Most of them wouldn’t have to bother with the formality. They don’t keep losers around. That’s how they’re successful in nearly every business venture they engage in. So, I can’t help but chuckle at the prospect. They’d quit? They’d better hurry! Just a tip, but it’s easier to collect unemployment if you’re let go.
I read an analysis (at Forbes I think). The Koch offer is not the best. Which I am sure is a relief to them, but also is a large warning side to the successful bidder.
I agree the Kochs are very shrewed businessmen. Which means they are offering what it is really worth. Those offering more are buying a Newsweek. And they will get burned.
Lefties are always looking for an excuse not to work.
Oh how I hope this is true – go Koch, go Koch…
Well, there’s two other offers….. so it may not happen, but, it would be a hoot!!!
