The Boy Who Cried Stupid

I’ve recently been reminded of a graphic which many of us have seen from time to time.

Now, I’m not going to go into detail about what this graph is wrong, or the different algorithms and technology dishonestly used to generate this graph.   It isn’t worth the effort.  I’ll just say this is dishonesty at work.

But, that doesn’t mean I challenge the idea there has been a significant decline in the northern hemisphere sea ice.  There certainly has been.

Oh, the horrors!!!!!

The problem I have with this is the “why it matters”.

Back when the hysteria over naturally occurring changes in our climate began, the thought, according to the nutters,  was that this was a really, really important part of our energy balance.

The thought was that the snow and ice of the extreme north of our globe helped reflect a lot of energy back out to space which would otherwise be absorbed by our planet.  White reflects light.  So, logically, the less white, the less reflection.  Light is energy, so the less ice the less energy reflected.  This is all true.  But what else is also true is that other incalculable things are also still at work.  Further, not all things are of equal value or weight.  In fact, nothing is.  Nothing is of equal value, weight, or influence.  Nothing.

The problem with regard to the NH sea ice is that the flat earther nutters considered the earth as a disc.  Worse, they considered it more square than it really is.  The area of the earth and the energy received by the sun , regardless of the tilt of axis, renders the arctic ice near meaningless.  Add to that the reflective properties of water in motion and we can see how the nutters overemphasized the importance of the Arctic ice.

The arctic ice isn’t important until it invades area which rely on warmth to prosper.  In other words, the ice doesn’t matter until it intrudes.  Less ice is better.  More ice is worse.  I’d go into detail about this simple fact, but these things are self-evident.  Have you ever seen grass grow underneath ice?  Me either.

If the northern hemisphere ice all goes away, then the worse that happens is that there’s less distance to travel between the old world and new.

For those worried about the fauna, Polar bears are Grizzly Bears.  It has been demonstrated that polar bears thrive better with less ice.   But, most importantly, for the nutters, the idea that less ice somehow makes the planet too hot?……

You want to see a correlation?  I’ll show you a correlation!!!!!!  Stupid, stupid, bastards.

Yeh, trends are exactly the same time period ….

Worry not. The Arctic Sea Ice might be declining but there’s still heaps of snow in my hometown on the ground. That should do it for the albedo – well if the clouds wouldn’t already do the job.

Coldest March EVER in Braunschweig, Germany… bad subsidy harvesting for our solar tycoons I guess… too cloudy.

LOL, I’m going to write about that too!!! Where do those pinheads think the land ice goes? ….. right, I forgot…. into the water which drowned us 15 years ago.

who made up that zero/normal line in the first place?…
    ….and didn’t qualify it…and never will

Not a one of them can say if all that past cold was normal or not! We’re not above normal…we’re below normal!

  3. leftinbrooklyn says:

Yep. The reason polar bears aren’t grizzly bears is because of too much ice. Grizzlies expanded their territory north in warmer times, & became trapped by glaciation. Climate change destroying them? Doubtful. Climate change created them? Absolutely.

I like my polar bears shaken ,not stirred….
suyts: put your beer down and give this a try :

    cheers !

WordPress sometimes automatically inserts the video player. Haven’t found out by now when exactly; I think it has to do with whether your link is followed by an empty line or not.

But nice video; nice music and commentary.

I really don’t like graphs with unlabeled axes I guess the horizontal ones are year. The lower vertical axis looks like anomaly. The upper vertical one escapes me–square feet, square miles, square kilometers, square rods, square furlongs, and so on (times a suitable power of ten)?

  6. PhilJourdan says:

Earth time is not the same as human time. We think in years, the earth in Eons. So all the Arctic ice is doing is migrating “south” for the Gaian winter.
