The list of pollees in the Zickfeld paper are largely the self-same people responsible for the largely bogus analyses that I’ve criticised over recent years, and which even if they were valid then, are certainly outdated now. Interestingly, one of them stated quite openly in a meeting I attended a few years ago that he deliberately lied in these sort of elicitation exercises (i.e. exaggerating the probability of high sensitivity) in order to help motivate political action.

I bet there are some Quacks out there isn’t shocked and are still dubbling down in this, Now you have to wonder why? And how much it’s costing them????? I’m just speculateing of coruse, but that same speculation in the housing market did what again, and who lost and who had to be bailed out? Yeah,that’s what happens when you play with fire, if you aren’t carefull you get burnt.
This is shocking, you’ll be telling me next that NOAA has unaccountably changed temperature records next.

Ah I tried to answer this on Steve’s blog, but he has apparently blocked me again. His foolishness about the artic has popped up again.
Anyway, it seems you have a quandary here. Annan is one of the leading warmists. Warmists are liars. Annan says these people talking about a 4°C doubling are lying, therefore they MUST be telling the truth.
Annan has recently comented on dotEarth that a recent paper shows a doubling of around 2°C which is toward the lower end of the consensus position. Of course the uncertainties don’t rule out a higher number, including the 3°C that a number of people have been suggesting recently. And of course it is just one metric, and the authors are very clear to say it is tentative.
Yes James in politically polarized issues people exaggerate in order to shift the debate in their direction. I thoroughly disaprove as does Annan, as well as most scientists that I know, including the climate scientists. The Republican primaries and presidential election showed that quite clearly this past year from every single candidate and their supporters.
Exaggerate wasn’t the word Annan used. Call it for what it is.

So, yes, for the founding father of warmist science, lying was perfectly acceptable if it furthers the goals of warmism.
And consider, this is what he said PUBLICLY. He publicly justified decpetion so we can only assume what he did in private. I would think it very likely that he personally encouraged building completely bogus climate models.
I agree. If a little deception is okay publicly, then a lot of deception would be acceptable privately.
