A Public Back-Door Deal?

Rice, Republicans in Face-to-Face

This has the smell of something ripe.

Top Republican senators are meeting Tuesday with U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice, as Rice continues to be discussed as one of the top candidates to replace Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she steps down next year.

Rice, after facing intense Republican scrutiny and criticism for her initial comments on the deadly attack in September on a U.S. consulate in Libya, is meeting with Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire.

Why not wait for the hearings?

Ayotte said she isn’t sure if the discussion will stick to Libya, but she thinks this could help her reassess her reservations about Rice as President Obama’s potential secretary of state nominee.

McCain, who vowed to block any attempt to appoint Rice as the next secretary of state, hinted Sunday that he might be moving away from his hard-line approach.

“She deserves the ability and the opportunity to explain herself,” he told “Fox News Sunday.” “She’s not the problem. The problem is the president.”

The meeting should be over by now.  This is not the appropriate venue for such discussions.  I don’t care if McCain, Ayotte, and Graham are satisfied with her ansewrs or not.  It is the American public who deserve an explanation.

As to the specifics.  We know Rice lied to the American public and the rest of the world.  Now, if it is as she states, that she was simply echoing some talking points given to her, then it means she lacks the capacity necessary to even be a janitor.  She can’t distinguish BS from reality.  Or, if that isn’t the case, then she was complicit in misleading the American public and we need to know why the administration puppet felt the need to lie to the American people concerning the murder of American citizens abroad.

McCain, Ayotte, and Graham are doing a disservice to the American people unless everything stated in this meeting is made public.

YOu can put a tuxedo on a goat, but it is still a goat.

Obama can play with his chess pieces all he wants, but they are still simple dung heaps.

Its getting tougher for Ms Rice since she has now admitted in public she knew, before appearing on the Sunday talk shows, that the attack was by al-Qaeda.

Between a rock and a hard place. If she gets SoS position she will have almost no credibility and little impact with foreign governments (eg in the Middle East, which is getting worse).

I have this sneaking feeling that I now know who the next US ambassador in Paris will be. One must award nice things to loyal supporters who selflessly take bullets for Presidents.

This meeting should have taken place in the same venue that was chosen to promote the video response. She told the Nation and the World. on TV…the chosen venue of the White House THIS is where this meeting should have also taken place.
