Leftist Logic On Display …… Again

image

The lunatics are now calling for a boycott of Papa Johns.  They’re last boycott worked out so well, they’re up for another round of directing traffic to a pizza joint now.

What has their panties in a wad?  Honesty and business sense.

As had been stated, over and over and over again, small businesses, especially restaurant franchises can’t afford to buy healthcare for all of their employees.  It’s really that simple.

Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter, said he expects franchise owners will reduce employees’ hours rather than provide costly, mandated insurance coverage to people working 30 hours per week.

“That’s probably what’s going to happen,” he said. “It’s common sense. That’s what I call lose-lose.”

As you can imagine, this brought out the ire of the loons.  ‘Let slip the hounds of Twitter!’

You can read more here at Twitchy.  But, some of them are a bit more profane.

My last health insurance policy, between my small contribution (about $200/mo) and the company’s contribution cost over $1400/mo.  It was family coverage, but nothing real special.  But, most of the pizza workers would be single.  So, let’s say they can be provided decent coverage for $500/mo.  If the worker is getting paid $9/hr, that works out to be about the same value as a $3/hr raise, or, a 33% increase in the cost of labor.

There is no business model set up to do this across the board.  The profit margins are simply not that high.  The problem these franchise restaurants are seeing is that no one has the disposable income to cover the increase of the cost of the food.  So what has to happen is the employees take a cut in hours and they avoid being forced to increase the cost of labor.

Watch for the unemployment numbers to bounce back with an increase of part-time employees.

Update!  Add Denny’s to the list!  Soon, the lunatics will simply boycott all restaurant franchises.

      Yeh, it’s pretty sad.

“Our Constitution, which was intended to limit government power and abuse, has failed,” Paul said. “The Founders warned that a free society depends on a virtuous and moral people. The current crisis reflects that their concerns were justified.”

      I entirely agree.

Of course I do not think “Pizza” is real food.

    Classic…

BOYCOTT! Drive them out of business! They can’t provide healthcare for their employees! Free their employees from the slavery of employment!! Non-workers of the world, Unite! Forward!!

But, you guys that are working, you lead the way, ok? We don’t have the money for the tolls….

    • kim2ooo says:

It was the same with the Chick Fil A boycott [ hatred ].

      • ThePhDScientist says:

Agreed they certainly don’t have that same LOVE that conservatives do! Especially for people who don’t fit the Evangelical Christian mold! “We love you – we just won’t give you any rights – but we love you!”

        LOL

        • leftinbrooklyn says:

          Hi PhD…

May I ask how much of your money you currently give to another family or individual for them to buy health insurance?

        • philjourdan says:

Logic Fail. No one gives rights. Government gives privileges, but not rights. They can only take them away.

        • kim2ooo says:

Show where Chick Fil A denied others any rights. They simply stated their Rights to disagree.

The homosexuals / leftists called for a boycott…A boycott that would hurt ALL employees homosexual / leftist – ALL. Because someone exercised their right to disagree…NOTHING MORE!

THAT IS Homosexual / Leftist – LOVE

    • ThePhDScientist says:

It’s a BS argument that they can’t provide health care for their employees. They can provide health care but then the stock price might not climb quite as high and all that paper wealth might not see the same percentage increase as it did last year.

What an absolute f**ing joke. Conservatives who are so obsessed with the social morals of the 1950s should also remember back to when companies actually cared about their employees and not just their stock price!!!

      • suyts says:

Ph, It is apparent you don’t understand the franchise structure of these outfits and the profit margin they have. No, they cannot provide health-care for their workers. It’s pizza for crying out loud. How much do you think the typical franchise owners take in a year?

Roughly 50-60 employees…… $500/month for insurance…… $300,000 – $360,000/yr straight off the bottom line. They don’t make that kind of bank.

      • cdquarles says:

First of all “PhDScientist”, no company provides health care. You do that yourself. Some businesses offer, in lieu of higher cash wages, because of favorable tax treatment, medical care insurance coverage. Having insurance coverage does not mean you get medical care. Given the perverse incentives of the ‘market’, nominal costs for insurance and for medical care are forced to be higher than they would otherwise. Here is an analogy for you. Do you have an automobile? Do you know what automobile insurance coverage consists of? The only ‘mandate’ for auto insurance is liability coverage for the privilege of driving on public roads. That’s right. Congress cannot make you buy a car nor can they make you buy liability insurance. The various states can do so (10th Amendment) and only for the limited reason stated. Liability insurance is relatively easy to model actuarially, so typical premiums are on the order of $40 per month. Comprehensive coverage lists more things and each addition adds to the price. Neither kind covers oil changes, gasoline purchaces, etc that are recurring but incurred variably. Medical insurance includes lots of recurring but incurred variably expenses that are cheaper if paid out of pocket. These increase the costs of premiums. Medical care runs on its cash flow just like any other business. Since all of the insurers, especially the government backed ones, don’t pay retail prices, the discounted fixed prices get factored in so that the cash flow is there to continue operations. Just like college tuitions, the more financial aid gets factored in, the more top line tuition and fees rise, but very few pay the ‘real’ price.

    great post!

I recently had an argument about this with someone – the type of people who just want to point fingers and never look at the facts. ‘it’s just greed!’ he said – which you pointed out nicely that isn’t the case. What’s crazy is how people just don’t understand about the problems with Obama-care; if you agree that people are greedy, then how can you say this part of Obama-care is good?

    • suyts says:

Thanks Lee! And welcome! Yes, it’s a sad state of affairs. These people don’t think things through.

Now that you’ve made a comment, you’ll no longer have to wait in moderation before it posts. (There’s a two link limit) Again, welcome.

  6. philjourdan says:

Their logic is simple. MOre unemployed is better than fewer. A boycott is only going to hurt those working, it will never help those who are getting laid off.

  7. DirkH says:

Google for “list of companies we boycott”.

    Lots of entertaining websites. Example:
