AHAHAHAHAHA So, They Just Couldn’t Help Lying Figured that….

As most of you know The Heartland Institute had some emails lifted from them and posted at DeSmog……   Heartland has responded……

The stolen documents appear to have been written by Heartland’s president for a board meeting that took place on January 17. He was traveling at the time this story broke yesterday afternoon and still has not had the opportunity to read them all to see if they were altered. Therefore, the authenticity of those documents has not been confirmed.

One document, titled “Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy,” is a total fake apparently intended to defame and discredit The Heartland Institute. It was not written by anyone associated with The Heartland Institute. It does not express Heartland’s goals, plans, or tactics. It contains several obvious and gross misstatements of fact.

You can read more here and here.

This just keeps getting funnier and funnier…… they attempt to equate a few thousand dollars of support from private donors to the $billions and $billions alarmists get from various sources.  But, apparently, DeSmog, or whoever they got the emails from decided that wasn’t damning enough….. and they were right….. so they forged an email.  They just couldn’t help themselves.  Well, so much for the anti-climate gate.  And so much for DeSmog’s credibility.  The question now becomes, did they know this was erroneous when the posted it?

Additional thoughts:  Of course, this once again brings us back to our eternal question we have with these people.  Either they knew the email titled  “Confidential Memo: 2012 Heartland Climate Strategy”  was a lie and they intentionally disseminated it to mislead the public, or they are not very bright and lack proper critical thinking skills and cannot distinguish truth from fiction.  Either way, the people who ran with this story without first verifying this rather incredulous email have shown themselves to be people incapable to giving us proper information in the climate discussion.  This greatly calls into question all the information they’ve passed on to us in this regard.  They should do the honorable thing and withdraw from the discussion altogether and let the adults speak.  Perhaps, if they were told to shut up and listen in their formative years, they may have learned something.

I only hope that the Heartland Institute prosecutes to the fullest, whomever they can. Just let me know where I can donate money for the prosecution. 😉

    • suyts says:

Well, they said they would…… I’m not sure that’s the best avenue of pursuit, but, if they could show a conspiracy to misrepresent them with that faux email….. we’ll that would be delicious.

Already, this is too funny….. they could have had their little fun with funding and whatnot, but now the entire account is discredited.

      • Gator says:

I firmly believe that when you reward bad behaviour, you only get more. Allowing them to attack the Heartland Institute without repercussion, would be rewarding them.

Plus, contrary to the myth, there is such a thing as bad press. It will show the alartmists for what they really are all about, and cause even more defections in their ranks. 😉

      • suyts says:

Oh, I didn’t imply that they shouldn’t be punished, they should. Everyday we should remind people that DeSmog and other various parties played a part in the deception.

And if they cry that they didn’t know it was a lie, then we can point and laugh at them and say, this is exactly what we’ve been talking about for years. That they have not critical thinking capacity, that they are easily duped, that they are tools for socialist Malthusian misanthropists. —— every day this should be pointed out….. in fact,…. thanks …. I’ll update my post…

Yep, the watermelons are out in full force. It seems they see something horribly evil about creating a web service to provide public data to the public and seeking a little funding to defray the costs. And OMG, the money came from … can you believe it … an organization that doesn’t tow the CAGW line? Oh the horror of it all!

I’m particularly amused at the claims that AW received BIG OIL money. Although he didn’t I would ask so what if he did? All the CAGW organizations are accepting donations from BP, Shell, and others. Why is it acceptable for them to receive money from the petroleum industry and unethical for anyone else?

Sheesh! Don’t these idiots have anything better to do than sit on walls and fall off for the amusement of town folk?

  3. Latitude says:

Keep in mind Heartland is private,,,,, the CRU emails were not

  4. suyts says:

Exactly, either the science is correct and advances knowledge or it isn’t. I said this last night….. scientists in the private field have to eat. So, someone has to fund them. This isn’t a hard concept for rational people.

And, it isn’t a big deal about who funds the Heartland institute. Did anyone actually think the DNC was funding them? Soros?

  5. DaveG says:

    LOL.
This more than anything shows a desperation on the warmist part, besides they are preaching to a shrinking group of warmers, most people are now focused on the economy, the cost of everything and the bone chilling / killing winter.

  6. Bruce says:

Key point in Heartland press release is the leak was actually caused by a scam email from outside which made out to be from a Heartland boardmember.

“The stolen documents were obtained by an unknown person who fraudulently assumed the identity of a Heartland board member and persuaded a staff member here to “re-send” board materials to a new email address. Identity theft and computer fraud are criminal offenses subject to imprisonment. We intend to find this person and see him or her put in prison for these crimes.”

This is interesting because Heartland will have the metadata for the incoming email. Does NOT sound as sophisticated as ‘FOIA’ and his/her Russian server shuffle. If Heartland can find out who sent the first email then that person is gone for wire fraud. The Wikileaks and NoTW scandals make the stakes very high indeed. Could blow back very badly on someone.

  7. Bruce says:

Key point is the leak was due to a false flag email attack:

“The stolen documents were obtained by an unknown person who fraudulently assumed the identity of a Heartland board member and persuaded a staff member here to “re-send” board materials to a new email address. Identity theft and computer fraud are criminal offenses subject to imprisonment. We intend to find this person and see him or her put in prison for these crimes.”

Heartland will have the email metadata and if the originator can be traced there may be some fireworks. Wire fraud? Does NOT look to be as sophisticated as the ‘FOIA’ Russian server shuffle. In view of the Wikileaks and NoTW stuff, the consequences could be quite painful.

This may end up with exactly the opposite result from what whoever did this intended.

    • suyts says:

I’m sure it already has……. faked e-mail, real crime, blatant and obvious hypocrisy…… trust has always been an issue for these people……. now, they’ve put away all doubt….. you simply can’t trust what an alarmist says.

  8. Bruce says:

Sorry about the 1st post. I thought WordPress ate it, and it’d disappeared into the land of lost comments. But instead it seems the spam filter was bored and decided to be playful.

  9. Me says:

Sounds like there maybe another Tim DeChristopher like patsy that will pay the price for this. It looks good on them! 😆

  10. Bruce says:

Er, take back what I said. The phantom PDF’er is starting to look very amateurish. I do like that the scan was done somewhere on the west coast where Heartland does not have offices. Ah, metadata, its almost as good as climate data.

    • suyts says:

lol, yeh, no vetting process for the sock puppets. Clearly they’ve shown themselves to not have the proper critical thinking skills to even caveat the information they passed on a fact.

  11. Even though it is a fake I know there will be global warmers that will insist it is real. And if I left the internet and didn’t use it for years then one day stopped in for a visit to global warming web sites I know I will see global warmers still talking about the “leaked Heartland document” and insisting it is not a fake but real.
