New Scientist presents good skeptical argument

Our friend  Maurizio Morabito (omnologos), had a neat find the other day.  I thought I’d pass it along in case you haven’t seen it.  He had a post The Beginning Of The End.  He points out that New Scientist has provided us with context for our planet’s temps.

The article can be found here , and the graphic here.

  1. Latitude says:

That’s probably the biggest thing I’ll never understand…
….how can anyone look at that graph and say we’re getting too warm?

    ….thanks om!

  2. Mike Davis says:

The right side is still wrong because for the last few million years the planet has been getting colder, not warmer. Thirty eight million years ago( give or take) the planet started cooling when Antarctica started drifting across the South Pole and set up the Circumpolar vortex, Probably about the time of separation from Australia ( divorces do weird things). Then two and a half million years ago( give or take) North and South America got hitched and stopped the water flowing from the Atlantic to the Pacific at the Equator ( Marriages do weird things also) Both events were seen to have caused a step down / slide toward colder global climate and there is no relief / correction in site.
We appear to be in an era similar to the Carboniferous Permian transition, but the lead in events appear to be much different. This see saw climate pattern could be the normal for a few tens of million years to come.
New Scientist can not relate to what they provided as it does not compare to the fantasy world we now live in that the new scientists are studying.
