The UW Huskies play LSU today. The point spread is 24–that’s if we’re lucky and only lose by that much.

It’s an early season game, anything can happen. I’m not much of an LSU fan.
LSU may want revenge for not getting the national title last year. Washington may be road kill on that path to getting it this year.
Well, they didn’t quite make the spread. Sorry about that. Looks like LSU will be tough again. And, it could be a long season for Washington. The PAC 10 looks to be strong this year with USC and Oregon. UCLA is about to beat Nebraska if they can hang on.
I think it’s the PAC 12 now, but I have trouble remembering the correct number too. It was PAC 8 for such a long time.

Yeh, it is. All of this conference hopping is bad for the game. I still slip sometimes and call the Big 12 the Big 8. …. sigh.
Yes, it was a poor showing for Washington. The refs were not exactly what I’d call balanced, but that’s the game. I think that one LSU dropped pass was a lateral, but it was a close call.

Well, tomorrow is the NFL!! So, you have a chance at that. They’re playing the Cards…. they should be able to beat them.

My brother is a Cardinal fan, but he’s not happy with their QB situation. I wouldn’t be, either.
I hope they don’t “pull a Seahawk.” That’s when the Seahawks get an early lead, think they’ve won the game, and stop playing.

I don’t understand why when that close to the goal line that they don’t have at least one play to take advantage of the young QB’s mobility and roll him out with an option to pass or run.
He did show he was ready for the NFL.
I didn’t see the game, because my family wanted to go to the Puyallup Fair. I did get a Romney-Ryan bumper sticker.

It came down to the last seconds. Seattle was on the 6 or 7 yd line with 30 seconds to go in the game. 4 straight pocket passes.
Too bad Seattle didn’t win yesterday. Now we face the Cowboys next week and Green Bay after that. Unless there’s something special that’s going to happen, Seattle’s looking at an oh-three start. So much for winning during pre-season.

It will certainly test them. OTOH, the Cowboys are notorious for starting out lackadaisical. With the young qb, it may be a year measured by his improvement, and perhaps the coaching for him.
I see Kansas St. wiped out Miami.
One thing I’m taking away from today is that the QB at Syracuse is pretty good. He made the USC defense look average.
I didn’t get to see it, but, yes, it seems USC has some weaknesses they need to address before the end of the season.
So far, the only surprise I see is that Oregon St beat Wisconsin. Though ND almost lost to Purdue and Air Force gave Michigan all they wanted.

SF taking over in GB.
Yeh, that was a shocker. SF made a statement today.
They would have beat them by more but SF went into a prevent 3 man rush and it dawned on Aaron Rogers he had time to throw. And there was the punt return TD for GB. SF had been stifling them before that. GB only had 7 points up until those two things.
Yeh, I questioned the wisdom of doing that. If you’re doing something that works….. why change it? OTOH, it was good for my fantasy team.
Pittsburgh had 2 very long drives and built up a 13-7.And it was gone in seconds when Denver got the ball.
Yes, it’s now be interesting to see if Manning can respond to this last TD.
I guess we see how they responded.
I don’t think Peyton Manning has ever been on a team this good. Denver may be the best team in football now.
They looked real good. But, first game of the season. Were they that good or is it an off year for the Steelers?
Well, Pittsburgh isn’t what they used to be under Bill Cower. But still, I think Denver is for real. Their head coach already coached a team into the Super Bowl, Carolina vs NE—and I think he was robbed by NE cheating. They play Atlanta next week—and it will be on Monday Night! Outta be a good one!

I like Matt Ryan a lot. With good coaching I think he could be the best of all time. His accuracy is uncanny. But he does not have good coaching at Atlanta. I’ve never seen anyone else as accurate, except maybe Jeff George. But he’s not nuts like Jeff George.
I think Matt Ryan’s potential is not being lived up to with the team he’s at now.
He’s very good. And, yeh, he’s not nutty like George.

Kansas St beats “OK” Oklahoma! Oklahoma’s tackling was awful in that game. I hate seeing poor coaching! OK will fall out of the top 10 and K St will move into the top 10! They have a fairly tough schedule. If they can go undefeated they will be in National Championship contention.

I do like it, but as you said, it’s a tough schedule. It’s a huge victory for K St. We’ll see how far that will take them. Like you, I hate to watch poor coaching.
LSU and ALA in one conf and Ore and Stan in the other control their destiny. If one team from both conferences win out they will be in the National champions ship. If something happens where they all get 1 moss then next in line will be K St and Ohio St if they both win out (and possibly Fl St, but they don’t have a strong sched)

Last week was evidence that Jason Garrett’s days at Dallas are numbered.
Well, the fact is, he’s had a lot of talent at his disposal, and he’s produce nothing but mediocrity. I think he is a fine assistant coach.
But he’s not the only coach to produce mediocrity with Tony Romo at qb. Romo, I think, is emotionally immature and can’t play good when it matters most.
I’ve always felt that Romo is better than what most give him credit for. However, I’ve nothing to point at that can show that.
Ok, time for the first string refs to get back in there.

I read this little diatribe yesterday by a Cowboy partisan (obviously). So were the Seahawks that good, or were the Cowboys that bad? The author says we’ll know Tuesday morning.
Well, the Cowboys won yesterday, but was it really a great showing? Not if you were listening to reviews made by the sports pundits.
I’m leaving to see the game in a few hours. I hope the Seahawks win. I won’t be surprised if they lose. If they lose against Green Bay, does that mean they aren’t very good? We shall see.

The officiating in the last play is what ESPN is going on and on about. But there were other calls that influenced the game too. Green Bay may have not gotten the only TD they had if not for a blown call. And there was clear interference on a GB db at another point that wasn’t called. It’s just one game. Let’s move on. And let’s get the real officials back ion before Thursday nights game.
There seemed to be major misses by the officials in the second half. We saw a blatant face-mask by a GB defender. It nearly pulled the Seahawk’s head off. The official was looking right at it–but no call. There was another GB block-in-the-back that was so obvious that the entire crowd was complaining–but still no call.

These officials aren’t ready for this level. They are a deer in the headlights sometimes.
On the very first run by Lynch I thought there was a pretty obvious face mask by a GB d-lineman. He turned Lynch’s head. But then I knew i was watching replacements refs.
I thought the rightful winner was Seattle. I don’t have a problem with Seattle winning.
I think once they get used to the speed of the game and the nuanced rules, they’ll be fine. I think it’s mostly because they’re intimidated.
Have you noticed that the whole game came down to the last “bad call?” What about the other game changing calls during the game. It looked like to me that the officials got a call at half-time, and were told to give the game to GB. Someone sitting behind me made the statement that the officials were for Seattle in the first half and for Green Bay in the second half.
So our fair-and-balanced MSM is only focusing on the last call. Poor GB, they should’ve won. They were cheated.
If you want to hear some classy comments, listen to Rogers’ statement after the game. It’s not the whining style of Flacco.

I’m thinking about writing a post on the NFL refs. The thing is, they’re equal in their calling. Some of them call the games very loose, others tight, some just get it wrong. But, they’re not showing a bias towards one team or the other. The fans have to be patient. And, I agree, had the Packers played better, they wouldn’t have been in the position they were.
Rogers was whining.
Looking at how tough K St. schedule is, if they go undefeated they would be in the national championship.
Yes, but that’s a huge “if”. OTOH, they’ve shown that they’re ready to play with the big boys. They can do it.
It is a big if. My hopes won’t get up too high.

National Championship picture:
Fl St is ranked high and will likely go undefeated. But they don’t have a strong schedule. They won’t get in because of it.
Oregon will only be tested by USC. They have a good shot.
Oddly enough South Carolina has a shot. But I just don’t think thy will make it undefeated through their schedule.
LSU and Ala still control their destiny.
Georgia has looked great so far but it’s going to get tough down the road. But it’s huge for them that they don’t play Ala or LSU!
Norte Dame is still alive at this point. But they have to beat Stan, Okla, and USC. I don’t think so.
And one that no one is talking about: Ohio St. They will likely go undefeated and then would need Oregon, K St. and one or two others to lose. And that could happen.
The other undefeateds aren’t worth the typing time.

This might make you happy: it looks like LSU is going to lose. They were shutting out Florida. Then the left side LB went out with injury, and about 1 minute later a left side DB went out with injury. Almost every Florida play went to the right, where both had gone out from, and they got two quick td’s.
It worked for them. Good recognition, good execution. LSU is down and out.
I don’t know if it was execution or getting lucky those players got hurt. They may have been shot out otherwise.
Well, there is always a certain randomness in football, it’s the ability to recognize the areas of weakness and exploit them which makes it skill.
Well, ok. But they will end up being ranked higher than they deserve. It takes the air out of the balloon when both teams aren’t at full strength.
But I would not be surprised if LSU beats Ala and wins all their other games if they still have a shot at the National title.

After weeks of dry weather (very unlike Seattle), the rain started yesterday. It will be really wet Saturday and Sunday. Normally, Western Washington teams have an advantage in the rain. The Seahawks haven’t been playing in the rain this year, so the rain may cause them problems too. Let’s see how the Huskies do today against USC. They will be playing in the same stadium as the Patriot-Seahawk game tomorrow..

It was a good try by the Huskies. Too bad Price thought he had to do everything himself–including fumbling the ball away three times. All I can say is, “Raspberries.” I hope the Seahawk game tomorrow doesn’t end similarly.

There will be other days for the Huskies. I think there are some really good days ahead for them. Stay with the coach and they’ll produce. Time and patience for Husky fans is the key. They have a good program right now.
We had a formidable team under Don James, and they used trumped up charges to decimate the program. I don’t have much hope in the NCAA allowing the UW to have a good team. It’s just my biased view of the situation.
It’s interesting how an official of the Seahawk-Steeler Superbowl said (years later) that they made some wrong calls against Seattle. Bad calls have a way of changing the entire course of a game. Those officials looked biased to me, but I’m a partisan Seahawk fan.
It seems that the sports pundits aren’t fond of Seattle teams.

What I know is playing with a chip on your shoulder is always helpful. You guys are getting there. Washington doesn’t have a good reputation as a football state. But, that”s changing. Personally, I think Zorn would be the way to go for the Seahawks. As far as the Huskies, ….. stay the course.

ND qb standing still in in the end zone. Ended up worse than a safety. If he had seen the LB blitz he could have dumped the ball off immediately to the area left open. Real basic stuff.
Stanford may have risked a blitz because game film may have shown that the ND qb doesn’t look for the blitz in that situation.
Whatever the case I would lose interest in the ND qb if I was thinking of drafting him.

It was a fantastic comeback, and a horrible collapse for the Chargers. Peyton just added to his status and stature as one of the greatest.
Now they’re putting quarterbacks up on Mount Rushmore. Payton Manning is one of four great QBs, along with Elway, Favre, and Marino.
