The Horse and the Mule February 1
Scripture Selection: Psalm 32:8-9; Proverbs 1:33; James 4:8
Food for Thought: Ps. 32:9
So many people have asked, “Why doesn’t God just make people follow Him and do right?” He could just snap His fingers, or say the word, and everyone would march in step. Then the world would be perfect. But it wouldn’t be perfect. We’d be like horses or mules, led about with no understanding.
God desires only those who are willing to be led by Him with understanding and by choice. The Lord can’t have true fellowship with a horse or a mule, but He can with us as we hear His voice, obey His Word, and submit willingly to Him. All this we do out of love and appreciation for the Father and His Word, not just because we have been pulled that way.
If we could be pulled around by a bridle, then we couldn’t really choose who would do the leading. Some people mindlessly are led into false religions or doctrines without any awareness of the Word and God’s true desire for them. Sadly, they truly are deceived and led astray.
I’m so glad that I can follow God with my own free will, not by force, but by faith. What a loving God we have!

Jeanette, this is a great post! This demonstrates what I’ve often stated. God is the Father of freedom! God doesn’t want a bunch of mindless followers. He wants us to come to understanding.
Right! Mindlessly following anyone or anything never turns out well.
