I don’t follow Italian politics much. But, I really don’t understand this madness.
Berlusconi added that “within this alliance came the imposition of the fight against, and extermination of, the Jews. Thus, the racial laws are the worst fault of Mussolini, who, in so many other aspects, did good.”
Well, yes, if you can just look past the genocide thing…… but, then we’re left with what? Oh, yeh, Fascism.
I won’t pretend to understand any of this coming from a current politician.
Power, James, it is all about power. Far too many politicians think that government is supposed to ‘help’ people, and that ‘leaders’ know what is best for ‘everyone’. Our founders knew otherwise. Governments cannot ‘help’ people without hurting others. It is inherent in the institution.
Well, yes. I understand that deep down, most politicians are Fascists, or at least adopt many policies towards that direction. But, I’m more amazed by the brazen openness of Berlusconi. Does this play well with the Italians?
Mussolini did make the trains run on time. Why else would you set up an absolute dictatorship?
Jim
LOL, well, true, there is the advantages of timely train schedules.
Exactly! What people fail to understand is that evil men can do good and often do – when it helps them attain their evil goal.
As a matter of unintended consequences, Mussolini’s ruthlessness in his conquest of many small nations did more to undermine fascism and foster democracy (or democratic republics) at the time. Sadly the new generations forgot (er, never bothered to learn) the lesson and are doomed to try to repeat the failed experiment.
Fascism, communism, marxism, socialism, authoritarianism and totalitarianism are all just different shades of red.
“Fascism, communism, marxism, socialism, authoritarianism and totalitarianism are all just different shades of red.” Entirely agree.
Mussolini eradicated Malaria in Italy. That’s the only good thing that comes to my mind. Greens would probably weep for his persecution of Anopheles moscitos though…
Well yeh! Why did Mussolini hate nature so much?
Reblogged this on Climate Ponderings and commented:
Not only did he defend Mussolini – He did it on the Holocaust Memorial Day.
Defend al Qaeda on 911?

BREAKING CONFIRMATION
Reports of an explosion at Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility surfaced late last week. The Sunday Times today reports it has independently confirmed the event.
There is so far no news on what might have caused the explosion. One question is whether it was the result of an attack on Iran.

I have to ask – why none of the majors are carrying this? This is indeed curious.
I’m going to guess that they were asked to not carry it as it undermines the whole “we can solve this by talking to them” nonsense that comes out of Zero.
Curious, indeed! But I sure am glad to learn about this. It couldn’t have happened to a better country.
There’s much talk about Berlusconi becoming Italy’s prime minister again.
Mrs A
I need to state – this report must carry a big “IF”
Good Question:
It seems that only two reporters are involved with this story, Reza Kahlili and Sheera Frenkel…..

Interesting……
Yeppers!
Since I penned that question, I did see a quick story on the Fox site about it. But it was not one of their headline stories.
