Another Great Gem!

Deceit Prevention   January 7

Scripture Selection: Psalm 7:14; Proverbs 7:21-23; Col. 2:6-8

Food for Thought (meditate on this): Col. 2:7

How could people be so gullible? Deceptions happen in every aspect of life. There are so many sects, cults, false prophets, and followers of them. There are also those who end up with the wrong people, making decisions that bring painful consequences, some losing lots of money or even losing their lives.

How does this occur so often? It’s simple. They are not grounded and built up in Jesus Christ and His Word, and they do not listen to His Spirit, making them easy prey to be led astray. Anytime you see someone making a mistake, you can be sure that he was deceived in one way or another.

Someone once said, “If you don’t know what you stand for, you will fall for anything.” True, but it’s not enough to stand for just anything; you must stand for what He stands. The only way to achieve that is to know Him through His Word and have a true relationship with Him, devoting mind, body and spirit to His way and will. It’s the best prevention for falling victim to deceit.

My sister found a gem that is particularly pertinent to much of what we converse about. While Col 2:7 is great, I think verses 6 & 8 are short enough to meditate on.

6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

We continually see folly bore from deceit. I’ve probably written about such on a daily basis for nearly two years, and probably longer. We see it everyday. We see it because people are no longer rooted in their beliefs. They are subject to moral relativism, bore from man’s philosophy.

NIV does very well I think:

Col 2:8: See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Humanism, progressivism, greenery, CAGW. These so closely fit this verse its scary.

Then after Ps 7:14 there is Ps 7:15, which could be loosely paraphrased as the first rule of holes. I wonder if in Jeremiah Wright’s church Mr Obama ever had this verse.
