Apparently, we haven’t given out our quota of welfare. Well, for some reason, the Dept. of Homeland Security has taken it upon themselves to attempt to meet our goal.
From the Daily Caller…..
Homeland Security promotes welfare to new immigrants in government ‘welcome’ materials
Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your new country can do for you.
“Welcome to USA.gov,” a website maintained by the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), bills itself as the “primary gateway for new immigrants to find basic information on how to settle in the United States” — featuring a prominent section for new immigrants about how to access government benefits.
“Depending on your immigration status, length of time in the United States, and income, you may be eligible for some federal benefit programs,” the Web page reads.
“Government assistance programs can be critically important to the well-being of some immigrants and their families. Frequently, however, there is a lack of information about how to access such benefits. Benefit programs can be complicated and you may be given misleading information about how they operate.”
The DHS page offers links to government websites that explain how to access benefits including food stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, Medicare, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the “official website with information on all available federal benefit programs,” with a nonworking link to Benefits.gov.
WelcometoUSA.gov also boasts to immigrants that “[f]ree public education for children is one reason many immigrants come to the United States.”
Though the website appears to advertise benefits, new immigrants are not necessarily eligible for the benefits displayed on the website; enrollment in SSI and TANF may also serve as impediments to future immigration status adjustments.
This is a disservice to both the citizens here and the immigrants arriving. As the story alludes to, enrollment in SSI and TANF can disqualify immigrants. And, we don’t want to import people who will immediately start taking the fruit provided which they’ve done nothing to contribute towards.
What is wrong with these people?
Hey can a white freckled back christian Canadian come in and get some of those benefits too!
Seriously over the last 30 years I spend some of my summers in beautiful Hood River, Oregon. area. Food stamps and benefits were rare until recently. Dare I tell the truth? Safeway is loaded with illegal immigrants with fist full of food stamps. There is a thriving black market for them that every body knows about.
I don’t see any reason why not, Ted. Just come on down! Do they still hand out the literal stamps up Washington way? In Kansas, the black market got so bad they started handing out debit card-like things. Still, there’s a market. Go in, buy some free groceries, and give them to your friend for some cash. Happens every day.
Want to move to Mexico?
The new minimum monthly income requirement for a foreigner to qualify for the temporary resident visa will be 250 times the Mexico City minimum daily wage, which in 2012 is $62.3 pesos, or $15,573 pesos a month minimum monthly income.
That is equivalent to $1,137 USD at a rate of 13.7 pesos to the dollar. But the SMA INM office will continue to use $1,200 USD as the minimum monthly income requirement for a temporary resident visa.
An expat will be able to get a work permit under the temporary resident visa. This will require an additional fee of $1451 + 550 pesos at application.
PRORROGAS RENEWALS FOR A NON INMIGRANT, NON LUCRATIVE ACTIVITIES 1451, AND 2356 FOR LUCRATIVE ACTIVITIES
REFRENDOA RENEWALS FOR A INMIGRANT: 3,140.
The fee for obtaining a temporary resident visa will be $1451 pesos in 2012.
The fee to apply for a permanent resident visa will be FROM $3,139 in 2012.
Buenos dias Gringo!
“The new minimum monthly income requirement for a foreigner to qualify for the temporary resident visa will be 250 times the Mexico City minimum daily wage…”
Let’s reverse that migration. 250 X 7.25 (The US minimum wage) = 1812.50.
$1812.50 on a 40 hour week would be $3,770,000 per year.
So we would require a 3.7 million dollar salary, minimum, for a visa?
Lol, I’m almost too poor to move to Mexico!!!
I have an uncle in Merida, in the Yucatan, and he loves it. I visited him a couple of years ago, and was delighted to see virtually no signs of class warfare, and a free market that would make any red blooded American jealous. If it weren’t so damn hot, I would consider it.
Make them government-dependent, entitlement expecting Democrat voters as soon as possible.
‘And, we don’t want to import people who will immediately start taking the fruit provided which they’ve done nothing to contribute towards.’
You racist, hateful bigot…
I’ve looked a little into a ‘working retirement’ immigration to Costa Rica. Kinda following my Dad’s footsteps, as he lived his last days there. If I remember correctly, they require you deposit at least $60,000 into a C.R. Bank, along with proof of reliable income. Weird. They seem to think, as the government of C.R., their priority should be protecting the people of C.R. from an increased burden due to immigration.
That is weird….. strange that CR would do that. They must be racists.
I meant to add to the post the part about “free education”. It is not free. We actually have to pay teachers and build buildings and all sorts of stuff. Oddly, everyone expects money for their services.
Right….the magical ‘free’ stuff….falls from Heaven I guess…
And lines like this have become mere eye-candy: ‘— featuring a prominent section for new immigrants about how to access government benefits.’
”— featuring a prominent section for new immigrants about how to access our taxpayer’s money.’
Option 2 bears a little more weight.
Yes, words mean things.
Yeah, I also am not sure what “free” means anymore.
I guess they figure that those of us with kids in college can afford $10,000
property taxes for the schooling illegal immigrant’s children ( just to be blunt).
While they cut our services and try to dismantle our police departments.
They’ll raise your taxes and cut services for free.
Actually I am pretty sure they get paid for that and it gets added to my bill.
Well, true.
Leave it to democrats to turn “homeland security” into an oxymoron. Regardless of your position on immigration, the simple fact is that this is not the homeland of immigrants. Period.
