You may wonder why so many progressive leaders — from Van Jones to Al Gore — are lining up to endorse Joe Romm’s new book.
In part, of course, it’s because we admire what he’s done at Climate Progress. He’s not just turned it into by far the most important blog about climate science– he’s modeled the way forward for focused blogs of all types. And he’s done it despite the fact that climate science can be difficult, technical, and depressing: his skill as a writer and editor is to clarify, to repeat, to make vivid.
Which leads us to this book, and the other reason people are endorsing it so enthusiastically. We know that progressives haven’t been very good at what (dully) we call “messaging.” We’ve watched for years as a string of right-wing mediocrities have somehow convinced millions of people to vote against their interests and for the policies that have led to both economic inequality and ecological peril. The only thing they’ve had going for them is a command of some of the simple, deep, and time-honored techniques that Romm describes in this fascinating new book………
But Romm’s simple volume will let anyone in on the secrets. You may not be a Demosthenes overnight, but there aren’t many Demosthenes out there. All you have to be is better than some blow-dryed fellow with a list of GOP talking points. And that’s well within your grasp, as long as you’ve got your hands on this book.
Oh my! Reality simply isn’t within these people’s grasp! Apparently, the full blown stupid hyperbole they’ve been spewing for the last 30 years isn’t exciting enough.
But, while we’re letting people in on secrets, I’ll let BillyJoe in on one. To properly employ rhetoric, an intelligence beyond blithely following delusional Chicken Little’s is required.
While climate skepticism can’t be uniquely claimed by the GOP (Republicans for people not familiar) we see what happens to leftists who are forced off teleprompter…. uhmm…. off script.

“Progressives” are exclusively about agitprop. Did a “progressive” ever do something himself? Everything they do is agitation and propaganda, from OWS to the Black Bloc to harbour blockades to the NYT, WaPo, Der Spiegel.
Red Bill makes it appear as if “progressives” define themselves by something different than agitprop. What should that be? Work?
Exactly. Now they’re going to learn “rhetoric”? I can’t wait for them to try and understand the messaging of Jesus and then try to apply it to some Lady Gaga type of project.

Lol, why would any self sufficient immigrant want to move to Detroit? It’s an urban wasteland defeated by socialism.
After Bloombergs suggestion the reward for 7 years of Detroit would be legal citizen status.
But what makes this deluded drivel so interesting is that Bloomberg wants to pay them not a dime, i.e. force them to be self-sufficient, something his party rejects as greedy capitalism.
Well, Bloomberg’s party affiliation has been all over the board. With Bloomberg, it isn’t so much capitalism vs socialism, he goes straight to the totalitarian globalist.
Another decade of cooling and all their books will be out of print and will solely be used to prop open doors.
Snake oil salesmen sold snake oil very well. They were good talkers. After a while though they couldn’t sell snake oil for any price and were run out of town as soon as they were spotted.

The problem with the left is they ASSUME the right is doing the same dirty tricks they are. They do not have the cranial capacity to realize that there are no talking points, just cool methodical logic behind the questions and skepticism.
