Any cogent person, not just in the U.S. but around much of the world have seen something like this…. (Click on the pics for links to the articles.)
Obama is ahead on some polls…. but wait, here’s Rasmussen Romney is ahead!!!
So, what’s going on? Are the other’s lying? Well, we can rule out Fox lying for Obama. So, is Rasmussen wrong? Probably not. They’ve a great track record with polling. So, how can it be that after being caught lying, violating campaign laws, running on perverse notions such as he’s an advocate of coal, and an economy still going nowhere that Obama could possibly be up in any of the polls? Have the American people simply rejected Romney out-of-hand? No, nothing of the sort. Here’s what it happening which is throwing the polling out of whack.
This is just the way it is. Our athletes’ performance on the world stage makes us feel good about ourselves and our nation. As the leader of our country, president Obama reaps some of the benefits of this ‘feel good’ notion. No, this isn’t very rational, but it is the way us Americans are. I guarantee that if the team U.S.A. was in the 3rd or 4th spot or lower, Obama’s poll numbers would be significantly lower. In spite of America’s obvious decline in some areas, our being number one in this allows us to project this to other facets of our society. See, we’re the best! Just look at the Olympics! In fact, I feel a bit dirty and unpatriotic by my missing some of the Olympics. It’s just the way it is.
None of this will last beyond 3 days of the closing ceremony. But, for right now, the American people’s attention has stopped on the politics and have united under the common cause of rooting for our team U.S.A. This is how, and this is why, Obama can be seen as up in many of the polls. Again, this isn’t lasting. It just is for right now.

It’s probably the difference between polling “likely voters” and “registered voters”. Rasmussen talks to likely voters. There will be registered voters that won’t vote.
Yeh, well, like the post says, all of this is skewed by the Olympics anyway. I think once they’re over and much of the political shenanigans are understood, Obama will likely be in trouble across the spectrum.
His problem is the last four years. People see who he is. He can’t change that. No hope and change happened. The only change was for the worse.
How about them wars in Egypt and Libya. A friend of mine knows lots of left liberals in San Francisco. He was with one of them the day after Obama unilaterally started the war in Libya. He said the guy said the most vulgar things. He couldn’t believe his ears. The man was so high on Obama and Libya changed all that. The guy felt betrayed. He lost that guys vote and everyone else like him. They’re registered to vote but they won’t voting.
Well, right, when Obama became president, one of the few things I wished Obama would accomplish would be to end some of our entanglements abroad, and to curtail the authority of the Patriot act. He increased both.
No right and proper pacifist can possibly vote for Obama. Of course, I’m no pacifist, but I saw our involvement in Libya and Egypt, and now Syria, as entirely unnecessary.
There is also the VP issue. Who Romney picks will say alot about both Romney and the Republican party. Of course, just knowing it won’t be Joe Biden, should be enough to ease most folks minds…
Is Bobby Jindal slated to speak at the Repub convention?
As far as I know, the list of speakers has not been released yet. Bobby is touring Colorado, stumping for Mitt as we converse.
Well, the complete list hasn’t been released, but we’ve some big names on the list. And some who haven’t been mentioned. VP’s are usually left off of the list.
The unbelievable happened.
The Onion mocks democrats.

That is strange.
I had a Texan Rancher (I am guessing that is what you would call a cattleman) in my cab yesterday and of course I had to ask him some questions. He was here because there was some conference on the type of cattle he has and our agricultural show is on at the moment. One thing that struck me was he said all those collecting gov cheques will probably vote Obama. So more people recieving welfare of one sort or another are more likely to re-elect the incumbant. He also seemed quite annoyed that you have not had a federal budget for 4 years and no one will cut anything referring to both parties.
This reminds me a little of how my mum used to speak saying if people on welfare ever become the majority you are doomed because they will always vote to recieve welfare.
So there is method in the madness put everyone on welfare and you can remain king until the big collapse comes.
That’s about right. And, no politician in their right mind would move to significantly cut anything because they’re immediately be crucified by political opponents and the media. It is the ultimate end. The only solution is to be ready for the collapse and make it a quick as possible.
Basically that’s how the Greek voted themselves into oblivion. Ironically in Germany it was the socialist Schröder who cut the long term unemployment benefits – very similar to Clinton’s workfare reform. Clinton was prodded by Gingrich to do it; Schröder had to do it to fullfil the “Maastricht requirements”, the EU’s rule that the deficit of a Euro country must stay under 3%. And ironically, in that case the strange nondemocratic archaic rulemaking of the EU worked.
Gallup shows a bad number for approval:

Can you say “President Romney” boys and girls? I knew that you could.
That’s the way I see it.
To9morrow morning is the VP announcement. And last minute guesses?
The recent talk is about Ryan. Ryan would give him Wisconsin. Also it would give him someone who would embarrass Biden in a debate. Well, a lot of people could do that.
HuffPo has reported Paul Ryan…. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/11/paul-ryan-mitt-romney_n_1684794.html
If true, it is an interesting pick. One I like in many ways, and some other ways, I’m not sure. But, Ryan is a sharp character. He’s smart, which is unusual for a politician.
I wonder what would happen in the black community the night of Obama losing in the election.
I would imagine, like the rest of America, they would breath a heavy sigh of relief.
lol.
I don’t think so. 91% are going to vote for him. There will be deep disappointment. I know there will be accusations of racism in the vote.
Sure, the majority will vote for him. I don’t believe 91%. I think in many ways, Obama has let the black community down as he has with all else. Recall the euphoria many had with his being elected based on the color of his skin. But, it turns out, he was an ineffectual ideologue.
Sure, there are militant left wing parts of the black community, just as there is anywhere else. But, even for the racially sensitive who are left of center, Obama has to be a huge disappointment. His presidency has been marred racial divisiveness. Most don’t want that. Even the militants have to be disappointed because he cares less about race than he cares about his leftist ideology.
Now consider Herman Cain, Allen West, Clarence Thomas, and many, many more.
I think in the future people will look back on this election as the year many freed themselves from the confines of racial identity.
I really am not as optimistic as you. He’s black. They will be disappointed.
Well, yes, many will be disappointed. But, it will be instructive to many. Although the LSM tries to paint Obama as a centrist, there’s no hiding from the fact that he’s a socialist. And, one can make the case that he puts ideology ahead of country. Obama has stated as much. But, if this is that obvious to you and me, how much more would it be to a person who believed race would be a priority to Obama?
Look at what’s happened already. Gay marriage? Yeh, the NAACP has endorsed it. I’ve never met a person of color who has. Bowing to other heads of state? Show me a person of color who thinks the president of the United States, especially being of color, should bow to the king of Saudi or the Emperor of Japan. And, so much more……. I think the words I hear when I bring these things up are, “Oh, HELL NO!!!”
But, maybe that’s just the company I keep. Disappointed? They are already.
Maybe since I am in California I see that blacks here will be reacting differently than blacks there.
True. Just like most of Cali will react poorly to Obami getting sent home. There will be wailing and gnashing of the teeth like has never been heard before.
And, it is true that you and I suffer from the same malady—– Our environment dictates our perception.
To give a pollsters feel for where Cali is, Obama 57%, Romney 35%.
Cali is a lost cause
