Well, it’s a bit of a story, so bear with me. You see it starts with a campaign banner of Mitt Romney’s….(sort of).
Clear enough. Obama is a SCoaMF. His policies don’t work. He works on his golf game…which, most people don’t consider work. Heck, his presidency emanates in such a manner much of America isn’t working. But, like the acronym SCoaMF, this banner is like a magnet to some bigoted, race baiting POSs, who care not one whit about the societal damage they do, they just want to score political points. They are scumbags, not even worthy of the disposal units they need to be put in.
And, of course, one comes to call about this very truthful banner. This moron is named Tommy Christopher. He writes a hate filled piece titled, “Mitt Romney’s ‘Obama Isn’t Working’ Banner Evokes Racial Stereotypes”…. well, I suppose it could if you were obsessed with race. But, we all know only bigoted racists are ones who occupy their lives in such a manner. Tommy, the imbecile, finds some great ways to connect that banner with racism, mostly using his understanding of black people. He states ……..
When I first saw the banner this afternoon, the multiple meanings were clear: President Obama‘s policies aren’t working, the Obama presidency isn’t working, President Obama…isn’t working, as in, doing any work. That’s not a nice thing to say about any president, but like it or not, it becomes a more loaded accusation when leveled at our first black president.
So, we can see where he sees that the criticism is something understandable. But, instead of either accepting that posit or presenting a case against that posit, which he clearly saw by his own words, he chooses to regard president Obama’s race. He assumes this is the cause. Why? Because he’s obsessed with race. By the very definition, he is a racist.
Apparently, because Barrack Obama is our first black president, (well, half black…. I’m not allowed to claim his mother’s Kansas heritage, I guess.) but, apparently, we can’t note the fact that unemployment is too damned high! Well, maybe it would be acceptable to Tommy if we only termed it in specific ways as to satisfy his racist paranoia. But, if you look at the banner, you can easily see how that might be impractical. Further, you’d also have to include the fact that he’s golfing, the fact that his policies suck, and then to save space you’d have to include the fact that he’s a SCoaMF. Tommy, there’s just not enough space on the banner, you racist POS. It is an all too familiar scene. Any criticism of this president is met with accusations of racism.
Forget the unemployment, forget the reckless wanton behavior of the people who work for him, forget the massive debt accumulated, forget the recent federal empowerment, forget the wars we’re still in and the more wars we got in, forget the tax money sent to his cronies on failed business ventures. ….. forget all of that, you can’t comment else you’ll be deemed a racist! The bigoted moron continues…….
Just to be sure it wasn’t just me, though, I asked several friends about the banner, and four out of four pointed out, unprompted, the stereotype of the “lazy,” “shiftless” black man. One of the people I called was cable news fixture Goldie Taylor, who, upon hearing my description of the banner, said “Are you kidding me? You have got to be kidding me.”
She also noted the multiple meanings, and the unmistakable stereotype it evokes, but didn’t think it was intentional. “That’s what happens when you don’t surround yourself with a diverse array of people,” she said. “Maybe if Mitt Romney’s experience was more diverse, or the people he surrounds himself with, somebody would have looked at that banner and realized how it could be offensive to some people.”
Well, his friend almost guided him to the right direction, but, neither could see what occurred. Goldie thinks that Romney just doesn’t have enough experience with this issue. She’s a moron as well. It’s like Romney probably never saw a black person so he doesn’t know…… what a kind insult. Look at the banner! There is nothing inherently racist about it! If we can’t question the president of the United States over his record…….. no screw you, you bunch of race baiting bigoted SOBs, I will, Romney will, and any other true American will criticize, discuss and debate, the actions of the POTUS, regardless of race, creed, or color. This is an immutable right of every citizen of the U.S. He wanted in the kitchen, you wanted him in the kitchen, here’s the heat. It goes with the job. Quit trying to silence dissent under they guise of your bigoted thoughts, you cretins. It sets a horrible precedence, which, I’m quite certain you haven’t the capacity to understand.
But, this is where the HuffPo contributor comes in. A Jason Linkins. He writes,
Are the words “Obama isn’t working,” hung on a grey banner behind Mitt Romney’s head at a campaign appearance in Ohio some sort of secret, racist dog-whistle? Over at Mediaite, Tommy Christopher says yes. I say something that sounds like, “Huhhhhheeehhhhghhhh,” and ends in gurgling sounds and an eye-roll. Let’s unpack, I guess? …….. I mean…I sort of get it? But at the same time, I also know that this phrase is directly borrowed from an age-old political advertisement from late 1970s England.
Yes, borrowed from, well, I suppose England, ……England, Britain, what’s the difference? At any rate, look…..
Ahh…. the days of Ronald and Maggie. …..
And so our friend Jason continues to explain how there aren’t any racial undertones over the banner in question. And, he disposed the question quite right and fair. But, he’s a HuffPo contributor, it would be impossible for him to leave it at that. He continues with the “dog-whistle” meme.
Dog-whistles are shibboleths — they work because of shared signifiers that are rooted in a tradition. They don’t work when you invent a new one, based on an obscure ad from 1970s England. You don’t activate right-wing racial resentment by confusing right-wing racial resenters with signals they neither recognize or understand.
Hey, I’d give him a pass on that one. Maybe, he’s simply speaking in the hypothetical. Surely, he doesn’t believe conservatives have some conditioned response, like a dog, to react to racist politicians, right? Well, that’s what I thought until I read his update……
UPDATE: Now, Romney appearing with this sign? THAT’S a dog-whistle.
That’s from 2008. The poster references a Black, an Arab, and a Caucasian. Somehow, that’s a racial dog-whistle to conservatives.
It turns out, this election isn’t just about Obama. It could have been, but it isn’t. It is about the racist, bigoted, sorry POSs, who freely and frequently disparage anyone who has the audacity to criticize the policies of the president. Obama’s policies are secondary to ridding this country of the divisive anti-American supporters of despotism. How do we defeat these blithering idiots? Make it about Obama’s policies and call them out every time they say “rac…..” They are scumbags and not worthy of this country. They seek to cause strife and racial disharmony in this country. They are intellectually vacant and can’t argue policy or function. They are simply, haters.
