In what must be one of the most shocking discoveries of the century, (for imbecilic climate nut jobs) , scientists have discovered things adapt to changes!!! From the story of the study……
In a study published in the journal PLoS One, an international team of researchers reports that coral populations, which unexpectedly survived a massive bleaching event in 2010 in South-East Asian waters had previously experienced severe bleaching during an event in 1998.
The team analysed what happened at three sites during the 2010 event and found that in Indonesia, corals responded to higher sea temperatures in a typical way, with fast-growing branching species – such as staghorn corals – suffering severe die-offs. But at sites monitored in Singapore and Malaysia, the usual trend was reversed: normally susceptible colonies of fast-growing Acropora corals appeared healthy and fully pigmented, while most colonies of massive coral were severely bleached. ……..
“This suggests that the thermal history of these sites may have played an important role in determining the bleaching severity in 2010.
“When we looked at archived sea-surface temperature data and past bleaching records we found that the locations that had a reversed hierarchy of susceptibility and less severe bleaching in 2010 also bleached during 1998. In contrast, the site that had a normal bleaching hierarchy and severe bleaching did not bleach in 1998.
“The most parsimonious explanation, therefore, is that coral populations that bleached during the last major warming event in 1998 have adapted and/or acclimatised to thermal stress. This is controversial because many scientists believe that corals have exhausted their capacity to adapt to thermal stress.” notes lead author Dr James Guest.
Hudda thunk it?!?!?! Well, in a few decades or so, the alarmists may catch up to present skeptic understanding. Congrats to the nut jobs who finally gained some understanding, albeit incomplete and stubbornly.
I’m going to scream…………..
They don’t seem to know that temp is not the only thing that causes a bleaching event
lol, you timed your time out just right! I thought you’d enjoy that one. Is a lobotomy required to be a marine climatologist?
I think you would have to start out with a bad gene pool…and go from there……
What a leap of faith that crock is…..First you have to believe in global warming, and go from there
Of course the gene pool explanation is a lot easier than trying to figure out what really happened, and any two year old could use that to explain why not all corals will bleach and it’s spotty…..
Yeh, I can go with genetics.
…… but, wait!!! Are you saying different things respond to things differently??? lol, don’t tell those scientists!!! That’ll give them a mind screw.
makes me want to scream……………………….LOL
Well, the definition of “creationist” to a warmist is: “a person who doesn’t beleive in global warming.” I mean, most warmists implicitly accept that the world is only about
600050040 years old and that everything was created exactly the way it is to-day.lol, yep, things never ever were different…….. and things should never ever change…… and if it does change, change will always be bad.
No different to what happens on land if a major fire goes through killing all mature trees the new trees that come up will often be pioneer species changing the make up of the landscape but over a long period of time will mostly return to the original forest tree types and diversity as the pioneer species are relatively short lived, excluding introduced species etc. My brother summed it up quiet well once saying many environmentalists now do not accept that anything should ever change which is not realistic and not natural. Imagine if half the polar bears died off in 5 years it would be blamed on global warming even if it was a natural event caused by a virus.
I think that’s the hope of the loons.
As usual you nailed the fruit and nuts brigade (an English term for nutter with no sexual inference). Keep it up/
Thanks, Ted! These people just leave me in a state of wonder, sometimes. Clearly they bought their degrees from some Caribbean college, but how did they manage to figure the postage?

Climate sense
Dr David Evans, formerly of the Australian Greenhouse Office, distils the science and politics of climate change into two documents highly approachable for the layman. If you read nothing else, read these:
Climate Coup – The Science [PDF download link]
The world’s climate scientists are almost all employed by western governments. They usually don’t pay you to do climate research unless you say you believe manmade global warming is dangerous, and it has been that way for more than 20 years. The result is a near-unanimity that is unusual for a theory in such an immature science.
We pay you to prove a preconceived proposition that AGW is real and man made – Case closed!

Thanks, I’ll check them out. But, yes, it is a western society, mostly an English speaking phenomenon. Sure, there’s some other whacky scientists, but for the most part it is the English speaking countries which are providing the engine for this madness. If you subtract 4 countries from the equation, none of this ever happens.
Basically, it’s our mess. Our mess to clean up.
Dr. Guest should have read this…

lol, yeh, but then he wouldn’t have made this wonderful discovery on his own!!! If this silliness continues 3-4 yrs from now another scientist will find out the same marvelous insights. It will be published, disregarded and the same stupid hyperbole about hot killing the corals will start anew. Just like it will happen in a couple of months.
someone tell Mike Mann – he can use the degree of bleaching as another temperature proxy!
lol, yeh that would be a beaut! I’m sure it would confirm his previous studies, especially if he looked at the corals upside down.
Glad to see UNSW catching up with James Cook Uni in Townsville.
(UNSW is proudly rated 4th in Oz and 173rd in the world, JCU is somewhere down in the meek 3 or 400 hundreds…but they do happen to have this humungous coral reef right next to them, whereas UNSW only has a harbour full of silly nudibranchs and boring sponges)
Still its good to see some reality creeping in. Molluscs next, betcha.
